Without the hard work and tireless efforts of volunteers, many vital programs at Windrush Farm wouldn’t be possible.
And thanks to the volunteers from PepsiCo, in addition to keeping our programs running, our facility now looks a whole lot better.
PepsiCo Give Back Days
On Saturday, April 27, a group of close to 30 PepsiCo employees and their spouses and families arrived at the farm equipped with in-kind materials and a desire to help. PepsiCo encourages and supports associate volunteerism and community involvement through a wide variety of company-sponsored programs and initiatives such as “Give Back Days”
The selection of the service day nonprofit was chosen specifically by the individual PepsiCo location. Kim Calabro, a cashier at Pepsi Beverages Company in Wilmington, was in charge of the search. After posting on her Facebook page asking for recommendations, a high school friend who knew Windrush Farm through her job at Work Opportunities, suggested the organization. The PepsiCo employees liked the suggestion and it was decided.
The group spent the day at the farm only breaking briefly for a picnic lunch. There were two projects completed by the crew. Opening and widening of the wooded trails designed to accommodate the therapeutic clients on horseback and volunteers. And building halter boxes for the horse paddocks with the materials they purchased.
Dan Davis, Territory Sales Manager was in charge of setting this spectacular volunteer effort shares why Windrush was chosen. “We are participating because we feel that the work they do at the farm through the use of horses and everyday farm life is a something that needs to continue and be preserved. Farms such as Windrush make a difference in society through hard work and dedication which is how we handle ourselves and business at the Pepsi Beverages Company.”
“We were thrilled to be chosen by PepsiCo as a volunteer site,” says Mandy Hogan, Windrush Farm Executive Director. “With their donation of both time and funds we were able to complete a number of projects that will benefit both our clients and animals.”
At the end of the day the group’s contribution is most appreciate by the more than 1,450 kids and adults Windrush Farm services annually.
“It’s amazing what one group of dedicated people can do in a day,” shares Windrush Farm volunteer coordinator, Jessica Barry.
